Supporters' Forum

The club has arranged a supporters' forum to be held on Monday January 8, 2007 at 7.30 in the Dolly Blue Tavern, when Mick Holye, Ian Sharp, David Needham, Barry Newsham and maybe others will be there to answer your questions and listen to any sensible ideas as to how to take the club forward.

Tell all your friends so as many people turn out as possible.

Any chance of there being some sort of agenda put on here the day before?

Aye, see you there.

I'll be there a little earlier, for the preamble after which Mrs Ladybird is planning to debrief me! Shocked Embarassed

Is anyone any good at note taking - even I can't read my writing after an hour or so!! Also if anyone, that can't make it wants to ask any sensible questions PM me and I'll ask (but only if you provide a real name - not Forum IDs).

Key questions are as I see it:

When will the Admistrators be finished??
Confirmation that the 10pt deduction takes effect this (not next) season.
What will the new Ltd Co. be called and who will be the main movers/shakers (other than mick and Ian??).
Will shares be on offer and what price etc
Likely league we'll start in next season.
When we can return to fat chips.

I can't see anyone being able to answer all of the above at this stage, but we'll see.

Hats will there be hats.

It might be interesting to ask who the debts are to and how we got into this mess to start with - if only to avoid it again...

How we're going to make some money? I've seen lots of suggestions, but few taken up in the last few years.

And what are the ambitions of the club now and in the future? Twenty odd years ago we were in the gutter but aiming for the Conference. Nearly made it, so what now?

Hi Cyril

I thought that formation of a new company is the worst case scenario and to be avoided if at all possible and depends on the Admins negotiations with the creditors, or is it a foregone conclusion.

what are the expected weekly costs of running the club next season and how can both the board and supporters ensure that the funds are raised and the club is able to run without going back into debt.
Should there be a joint money raising committee chaired by the commercial Director with that sole objective?

Just an observation and a thought if it helps Good Luck

One way distant fans could help is by putting their money where their mouth is and either:

1) Joining Gold Bond (about £4 a month and there are prizes!).

2) Sending the gate money by post even though they can't attend.

For where to send cash or get a GB form etc call the club 01524382238 and speak to Barry. In the words of our future coporate government "Every little helps...."

I almost forgot.........

I don't think anyone can answer most of your questions (Mike D) until the Administrators are finished and we know what the score is i.e. if we go for CVA what will be the required monthly payments, we won't be able to budget for gate receipts until we know what league we are in etc etc

As for Duncs question re who are the largest creditors, I doubt you'll get anything official as that would probably constitute a breach of the DPA (unless of course the creditors agree to having thier business dealings brought into the public domain).

I still believe reforming is the best way forward as it leaves us debt free, with a good young squad able to compete at a lower level and build for the future.

Mad, you're falling into the classic football club trap of expecting that the supporters will go out of their way to give money, turn up for games etc etc... it doesn't work, you've got to make it easy.

For example, not many exiled fans are going to just join Gold Bond without some sort of help. However, if you put an online form up, explain it and how it works, you might get some. When Cashline started, it didn't wait for people to join, we got people out canvassing the streets of Lancaster to get members.

But is that the best way to get the money from them anyway? If these supporters have a bit of money (say they can afford to live in France or Leeds or posh places like that), they might be able to afford more than that. How about you target getting £20 a month from them, but you throw in a free replica shirt every season. You then get income, a reliable order for shirts, and the exiles get what they find most difficult to obtain normally and something they may value.

In a way I don't know why I keep posting this stuff, the evidence is strongly against any kind of different ideas or use of imagination, instead we'll just do the usual stuff in the usual way. Which was what made Mick Hoyle so successful when he was Commercial Manager, he didn't do the usual stuff the usual way, he actually did something different and made it work. And we made progress. Now we're heading back down, and deservedly so, because of, let's not mince words here, how badly the club has been run, not just this season, but in the last few seasons as well.
